Why Consumers Unsubscribe & How to Keep Them

With nearly 91% of all consumers having unsubscribed from an opt-in company e-mail, or fanpages you can likely relate to this rationale.  The number one reason, with more than 90% of consumers agreeing – is too frequent, irrelevant or boring communications from companies.  The days of people getting excited about receiving an e-mail or status update are long gone.  Nowadays, interesting marketing e-mails are now few and far between.

The point? If you’re sending relevant, interesting and unique content to your subscribers, whether that’s via e-mail, on your blog (rss feeds), or Facebook Page, great, but don’t overload them. If you’re not, start.  Companies like Groupon thrive in the e-mail medium because the message is highly relevant, simple, dependable, and time-sensitive. The e-mail arrives early morning, and is often the first e-mail business professional’s read when they get into work.

When it comes to customer communications, don’t overload them.

Stuff We’re Trying – Prezi.com

Prezi.comI’ll be honest. I hate PowerPoint. Nothing says “boring presentation” like an old fashion PowerPoint show. Boring slides, boring colors, boring layouts… I can’t say that I’ve ever been blown away by a PowerPoint slideshow. Obviously good content makes good presentations but it’s always nice when someone has the content laid out in an interesting way.

I was fortunate to have a few presentations on my schedule at the start of the month and I looked long and hard to find a way to make them different. That’s when I came across Prezi.com.

Prezi is an online presentation tool that lets users make great looking presentations in just a few steps. Its’ pretty simple – you start with a big open canvas, add your content (text, pictures, video, pdf) and then join your content parts together. The program takes your presentation outline and adds in some cool zooming transitions. Prezi  has a few different styles that you can use to spice up your colors and fonts and the site allows you to show your finished product online or download it to your computer.

The basic Prezi account is free but the company does offer some paid upgraded accounts for the more serious Prezi’ers… Prezitonions… Prezi’ites… whatever.

My first Prezi was a bit basic so I’ll spare you that one. Here’s a Prezi created by someone a bit more advanced.
