Solving Traditional Problems with New Technology – The Online Recruiter

Online Marketing for RecruitmentRecruiting can be an interesting proposition at the best of times. Prior to getting into online marketing on a full time basis, I spent close to three years in the staffing industry. I specialized in light industrial personnel, industrial management and skilled trades positions. I was fortunate (or unfortunate… depending how you look at it) to work in an extremely hot economy. Qualified staff were at a premium and the competition to land quality candidates was fierce. It wasn’t uncommon to have 40 or 50 unfilled positions on our board at any one time.

Online marketing was still relatively new in our office. We relied on newspapers, job fairs and websites like Monster to bring in resumes. Our recruiting practices were very traditional and we were constantly being scooped by other companies that were willing to experiment with new online recruitment methods. Writing Web Content – For Bots vs. People

There is a lot of dispute over which is better, writing content for search-engine robots, or for the viewers the search engines send. You’ll find varying opinions everywhere. In our opinion, it’s best to write titles and subtitle for the bots, but always keep in mind that your main content needs to make sense for your consumers as well.

Here’s our thought process:

Getting ranked #1 on Google can really help boost your organic traffic. To do this you have to be smart about keyword usage, and utilize some SEO best practices. Many of which are not customer facing. For those that are, like header tags and titles – be sure to use a smart engaging titles with good, relevant keywords. The bots will like you, and rank you well.

When it comes to content – write for your end user, but try to incorporate the same keywords you used in your titles. Keep in mind, Google hates keyword stuffing. Google has algorithms to determine if you’re stuffing keywords into your content to the point that it’s just nonsense. Besides, you’re not even considering the real people who will actually buy from you. To that end, keyword stuffing is pointless – you’re better off trying to rank well for one keyword, than have a mediocre ranking for many.

Our tip? Stick to one or two keywords per article, and be diligent in using them throughout the content.

Industrial SEO Strategies for Large Websites – SMX East

Search Engine Marketing Expo New York

When it comes to large websites the process behind search engine optimization and the check-list of do’s and don’ts becomes a greater challenge. Not to mention the time spent convincing the boss that SEO is not only another pretty acronym but that is should be included in the budgetting sheets. (Ever wonder how an SEO spends his/her time?)

But do not despair! I had the pleasure of attending the Industrial Strength SEO presentation at SMX East in New York last week. Cleaning up the presentation was Tom Petryshen from Amplify – Australia based search marketing experts. I met Tom at SMX West in Seattle earlier this year and after chatting with him I couldn’t wait to see what he had cooking for SMX East. Read the rest of this entry »

Little Bums Fingers and Toes

Edmonton Maternity and Newborn photographer Lorena Smalley was one of our first and most important clients. Partnering with Lorena allowed to display our e-marketing skills. We’ve helped LBFT with online campaign management, search engine optimization, social media contesting, e-newsletter creation and deployment and video development.

What we did

SEO
To start SBX performed an onsite and offsite SEO update to the website based on current format and content. After a month we added a small online paid search campaign within both Google and Facebook.

Results
Within the first month organic results were observed almost immediately with a 2000% increase in traffic withing the first month alone. Way to go Little Bums Fingers and Toes! There was a decrease in bounce rate by over 15% as well which means we were getting the right people to the site for the right terms.

Online Marketing
With the implementation of Search Engine Marketing we observed further spikes in traffic with high click through rates.

All in all what a fun campaign to work on as we continue to observe increased traffic and Lorena continues to get herself infront of the eyes of new costomers who get to see her amazing works!

Speaking of which, for more information on Little Bums Fingers and Toes or to book a session (yup this is a plug – but I too am a fan and had my family photos done by Lorena) contact Lorena Smalley.

Chao!
